꒰ Who Are BTS? ꒱

BigHit was a small and near bankrupt company when BTS was formed originally in 2010 and when they debuted in 2013
the seven boys shared a dorm, sleeping in one room together, and oftentimes used utensils and clothing that was gifted to them by fans or family
BTS lacked both company and financial privilege and thus were often brushed to the side, cut from broadcast, and looked down upon. they've admitted that they've even been berated to their faces, told that they will never make it

BTS is a cultural force. they are artists in every sense of the word. they love what they do and would still be doing great things even if they hadn’t popped into the mainstream/global market in 2017
here's a video series that introduces bangtan and it's members more in depth and visually !
✧ 7 member south korean group under BigHit Entertainment
✧ debuted june 13th, 2013
✧ fanbase: ARMY
✧ known for their intricate and difficult choreography
✧ rap line came from the underground scene in s.korea
✧ they write and produce a majority of their music as well as have a hand in their choreo and schedules

together they've faced many adversities - from false plagiarism and chart manipulation accusations to dealing with racist/xenophobic stigmas when breaking into the west and more - however BTS have always remained humble and genuine
aside from their outstanding talents, BTS is known for the important topics they discuss in their music and for speaking up and showing their growth through their actions.
they always donated and supported foundations even in their smalltime days and now use their platform to shine a light on others and make a positive impact on the world outside of their music

the members both in their music and in day to day life support and speak on societal issues and pressures. each 'era' of albums typically has a core message or theme
the 'school trilogy' talks of pressures of a students and how they're manufactured into living someone else's dream, having no passion themselves. 'hyyh' goes through struggles of young adults albeit love, uncertain futures, etc. 'wings' deals with temptation and indulgence. 'love yourself' takes on how difficult it really is to fully embrace oneself and their faults. and most recently 'map of the soul' is a reflection of the different personalities and lives we live
BTS are also ambassadors for UNICEF and run a campaign called LoveMyself against violence and bullying . all the money made off their LoveMyself collection as well as a percentage of the profit made from the album series "Love Yourself" (which has sold over 6M copies altogether) goes directly into funding this campaign. leader namjoon spoke at the United Nations general assembly in support of Generation Unlimited, a new global partnership to help every young person into quality education, training or employment by 2030
even their current project #connect_bts gives platform for artists of all different backgrounds, races, sexualities, mediums (etc) to share their own philosophy which matches that of BTS through their art
BTS has inspired millions of their fans and caused what can be noted as a cultural shift. BTS' fans (ARMYs) are a powerful and organized force full of different people with different skies. from breaking down lyrics across multiple languages to discussing different interpretations of the ongoing storyline in BTS' mvs
one of the most notable things about the ARMY and how they reflect their idols is in charity. fans create multiple donation/charity projects for each members birthday and participate by the hundreds and even thousands. a great showcase of this is @OneInAnARMY which helps organize and host these large events. some of the recent feats include donating blood, sending money to lgbt shelters, donating clothes, and more. some charity events are inspired by BTS' donations too. seokjin donated to an animal shelter and namjoon funded a music center for deaf students which inspired ARMYs to help in similar ways of charity or volunteer work

the BU or Bangtan Universe is an ongoing fictional storyline depicted in BTS' affiliated MVs that's further ventured through in a webtoon called "Save Me" and a novel plus booklets called "HYYH The Notes"
BU displays the adversities and struggles many youths have to face and are oftentimes dismissed of. Some of the recurring topics of BU are mental health and the stigma surrounding it, suicide, abuse, broken families, etc.
while the members use their real names in this - it is a fictional universe - and the members have not personally experienced everything to our knowledge
i also want to note that in no way are any of the topics trivialized or romanticized in BU. The HYYH Notes novel in particular has an entire scene about how it’s ALWAYS okay to reach out for help and never compares situations’ severities
